Just in time for July 15th! POTTER PILLOWS

I am in the process of making a Harry Potter Pillow. I love, love, love the books and movies and CAN NOT wait until the 15th for the last part of the Deathly Hallows to be released!! So far, this is what I have. I still need to ad arms and feet and I think I am going to ad a Gryffendor scarf rather than a tie.I'm thinking of adding Hedwig somewhere in the mix as well. I guess I'll just have to wait and see what happens. I'll definitely have it complete before the movie is released. I already have a few orders put in for it and the prototype isn't even finished! I'm very excited about that!

After so many interruptions and set backs, I finally finished writing the pattern for my Bunny & Carrot Pouch. I listed it on my Etsy site if anyone is interested. Well, I finally finished this and just in time for Easter! This little bunny and carrot took a really long time for me to design. I can't tell you how many different bunnies I made before I decided I liked this one. I have a bag full of half finished, headless and funky looking bunnies! Thank goodness the carrot took me no time at all. Once I got going on that I just didn't stop and luckily, the first draft I was very happy with. So what do you think??? Sorry the pics aren't the greatest. I'm not very good at photographing.

Wedding Bells

This posting has nothing to do with crocheting but, it's my blog so I made the executive decision that I will post it.
I am excited to say I finally got married! Me and my husband (it feels so weird to say that!) have been together for 7 years so it was about time! After months and months of planning, stress and nervous break downs it's all over....and I would give anything to do it all again! It just went by so fast I feel like I missed the entire thing. All of the planning and preparation....and it went by in the blink of an eye. I would like to share some pics with everyone. These aren't the professional pictures, just some my friends and family took. I'm still waiting on the professional ones.

Invisible decrease Instructions

I'm sort of new to the crochet thing and unless I have someone right in front of me teaching me how to do a new stich.....well, it's not exactly an easy thing for me to pick up. Even watcing videos doesn't help me....until now. I found this WONDERFUL tutorial on how to do an Invisible decrease stitch. It's a bit more annoying than doing a regualr decrease but the end result is much nicer and cleaner. If you are trying to learn how to do the stitch, take a look at this tutorial by Nerdigurumi. She is excellent at explaining it and her video is easy to follow. I was INVDEC in no time at all! Thank you Nerdigurumi!

I received this post the other day and thought I would share it with as many people as I could. Please take a look at the link. It's sad to read stories like this. I know times are hard for everyone right now. Wouldn't it be wonderful if we all just helped one another out? The world could be a much better place if people could just learn to care, share and get along with one another. I know many people are hesitant to help out with situations like this and not because you don't care but because you are concerned about the validity of it all. Amigurumi Valentine Girl

I've been really slacking in my crocheting the past few weeks. Right now I'm soooooo busy plannning my wedding which is this coming February....super, super nervous! I did have time to sneak in a bit of fun crocheting time and made Jeanette, a super cute amigurumi valentine doll. I love her hair, which by the way was a PAIN IN THE BUTT to do. Each strand is individually sewn into the head and the entire head has hair. The yarn I used was really annoying because it kept unraveling and made the hair look really frizzy. I'm trying to find a better yarn that looks curly but does not unravel so easily.

I love the little heart "buckels" on the shoes!

Really easy arm warmers (Free Pattern)

This was my first attempt at making something other than amigurumi. I made these arm warmers for my soon to be sister in law. They are really easy to make. I didn't do anything really creative with these because I didn't want to ruin them so I just put some buttons down the side seam. Next pair I am going to put a lining inside and "do up" the front some.

Here is the simple pattern:

sc = single crochet
blo = back loop only
fo = fasten off

Chain 50 (or chain to the length you desire. Mine go up to the elbow but I folded them down to make a top cuff)

Row 1: sc from second chain from hook to the end (49)
Row 2-25: sc in blo all the way across. FO leaving long tail for sewing
** 25 rows was the amount I needed to fit my arm. You may need more or less depending on size

Sew up seam with tail making sure to leave a little gap for your thumb. If you plan on folding down the top like I did, make sure you "test fold" to see how the thumb placement should be. This way you don't finish the sewing, then fold, only to realize the fold covers your thumb hole.....I did that.

Optional: fold down the top and sew around to make a cuff

Optional: sew buttons down the seam you just made

See?? Simple! If you try it, let me know how it comes out!

New Logo

I've been working on a new logo for quite some time now. I'm not exactly an artist so drawing one has proven to be quite the challenge. This is what I came up with. I'm actually pretty happy with the end result but now I have to figure out how to use photoshop so I can make a banner for my Etsy shop and improve on this drawing. I 've never used Photoshop before. If anyone has any suggestions on other programs I can use I would really appreciate it!

I've been trying to get into the whole pattern design thing and am finding it is not as easy as I thought! I have been working on 2 since June of this year and am about 95% finished with both. I still have to work out a few "bugs" but they are almost ready to share. I have so many more ideas I want to begin but am a little put off by how long it takes me. I really hope this design thing gets easier as I get more practice =0(

Cupcake Pattern

I'm in the process of designing a really easy cupcake pattern and will have it posted very soon! It's crocheted all in one piece and is so quick to make. I love crocheting but really don't have much time to do it. This pattern is very satisfying because it can be completed in about an hour and is great for any beginner.

Be on the look out for it. I think it will be complete this week!

I came across this pattern today and it made me giggle with glee!! How cute is this little guy! He's from the book "Creepy Cute Crochet" by Christen Haden. I immediately did a search in this book and it is definetly a must have! I love when I find awesome free patterns like this. It makes the day so much brighter!

Difficulty Level: Epic
Gauge: 5 sc x 5 rows = 1" x 1"

Materials:

Yarn: terracotta and taupe
Hooks: US size E and US size 1
3/8" pie-wedge eyes
Felt: cream
DMC embroidery floss in dark brown and gold
Stuffing
Needle and thread
Scissors

BASICS

Head and Body
Use size E hook and taupe-colored yarn. Make 1 Basic Head and 1 Basic Body.

DETAILS

Ears
Use size E hook and taupe-colored yarn. Make one pair. (Ch 2, dc 5) in magic ring. Fasten off.

Tail
Use taupe-colored yarn. Ch 27, sl st 25.

Fez
Use size E hook and terracotta-colored yarn.
Row 1: Sc 6 in magic ring†, sl st to close {6}.
Row 2: Ch 1, sc 1 in same, inc around, sl st to close round {11).
Row 3: Ch 1, sc 1 in same, sc 1, [inc, sc 1] around, sl st to close round {17}.
Row 4: Ch 1, working in back loops, sc around, sl st to close round {17}.
Row 5: Ch 1, sc around, sl st to close round {17}.
Row 6: Ch 1, sc 7, inc, sc 8, inc, sl st {19}.

Tassel
1. Cut 4 5"-long sections of gold embroidery floss. Fold 3 of them in half over the fourth.
2. Pull a single thread of the same floss, fold it in half over the same point, and thread the ends into a needle.
3. Wrap the thread around the bundle of floss a few times and stitch in place.
4. Twist the single 5" segment and fold in half, allowing it to twist. Pull the end through the top of the fez and stitch in place. Trim ends.

Vest
Use size E hook and terracotta-colored yarn.
Row 1: Ch 16.
Row 2: Inc, sc 13, inc {17}.
Row 3: Ch 1, flip, inc, sc 15, inc {19}.
Row 4: Ch 1, flip, inc, sc 17, inc {21).
Row 5: Ch 1, flip, inc, sc 19, inc {23}.
Row 6: Ch 1, flip, sc across {23}.
Row 7: Ch 1, skip 1 sc 20, skip 1, sc 1 {21}.
Row 8: Ch 1, skip 1, sc 18, skip 1, sc 1, fasten off {19}.
Switch to size 1 hook and gold embroidery floss. Chain stitch around edge.

ASSEMBLY
1. Stuff head and body and stitch together.
2. Cut cream-colored felt according to template. Your template should be about 1 5/8" wide and 1 5/16" tall.
3. Stitch nose with padded satin stitch. Stitch mouth as a French knot.
4. Stitch or glue felt face to head. Attach eyes.
5. Stitch ears to either side of head.
6. Stuff fez lightly and stitch to head.
7. Wrap vest snugly around body and stitch in place.
8. Stitch tail to back of body.

Little Wood Gnome (Free Pattern!!)

This is the very first pattern I've designed on my own and I want to share it with all!

Materials Needed:

Red, tan, blue & brown worsted weight yarn

White thread

Size F hook

Yarn needle

White wool/mohair blend yarn (Katia Reno Plus brand shown)

Two 9mm safety back eyes

Polyfil for stuffing

Abbreviations:

Sc= single crochet

Inc= increase

Sl st= slip stitch

St= stitch

Sts= stitches

Dec= decrease

Begin with red yarn

Do not join rounds unless otherwise instructed.

Round 1: chain 2, 6 sc from second chain from hook to form “magic ring” (6 sts)

Round 2: sc in each st around (6 sts)

Round 3: Inc ( 2 sc in next st, sc in next st) *3 times (9 sts)

Round 4: sc in each st around (9 sts)

Round 5: Inc (2 sc in next stitch, sc in next 2 sts) *3 times (12 sts)

Round 6: sc in each st around (12 sts)

Round 7: Inc (2 sc in next st, sc in next 3 sts) *3 times (15 sts)

Round 8: sc in each stitch around (15 sts)

GNOME Arms (MAKE 2)

Begin with tan yarn

Round 1: ch 2, 4 sc in second ch from hook to form “magic ring”

Round 2: 2 sc in each st (8 sts)

Round 3-5: sc in each st around (8 sts)

Change to blue yarn

Round 6-7: sc in each st around (8 sts)

Slip st to finish. Lightly stuff arms with fiberfill

Gnome Beard

With white mohair yarn

ch 14

Row 1: sc in second chain from hook and each ch across (13 sts)

Row 2-12: ch 1, turn, sc2tog, sc in remaining sts across

Fasten off

The beard should look like a triangle. In order to fit the Gnome properly it will need to be cut to fit his face.

From the top of the triangle, cut a “V” shape into the beard that fits your gnomes face.

Once you have the proper size, sew the beard onto the Gnomes face. It should be sewn completely around. This ensures the stitches to stay in place and it will also flatten and fit the beard to the face.

Paws 4 Love

For a while now I have been hating my job (who doesn't?) and have been trying to decide what it is in life I want to do. I know I would really, really love to work with animals. I don't want to be a vet (I can't stomach blood and would never be able to administer a needle) but I do want to help animals in some way. Idealy, I would LOVE to open a rescue shelter and take in all of the animals who's "time is up" at humane sociaties and other shelters. Right now though, that idea has to remain on the back burner because I just do not have the resources to start. So for now, I have decided to give any money I can spare to shelters, rescues and humane organizations around the country. In effort to give more money, I have decided to start
"Paws 4 Love". Right now Paws 4 Love is just me and my Esty shop donating money from sales of my items but one day (and I hope one day soon) it will turn into somethng bigger. For now though, I'll just have to deal with what I have and work towards making it something bigger and better!

New Knitters/Crocheters???

     I'm new to the whole crochet/knitting thing. I started learning a little over a year ago from a friend who can do ANYTHING with a needle (definetly check out Yarnigans if you ever get a chance!)

     Right now I really just crochet. I'm trying to master that before I move on to knitting. I'm having a tough time with that. I can't seem to hold 2 needles at the same time. I can walk and chew gum at the same time, I assure you of that!

    If you have a facebook, please, please, please check out my page and "like" it. I'm trying to get as many fans as possible, this way I can say "look how many people like me!" It's purely for selfish and vain reasons!
